Career Goldman Sachs, OrbiMed Advisors
Education New York University - Stern School of Business
Location New York, Mumbai
I was born in Mumbai, India and moved to the United States when I was five years old. I went to Bergen County Academies in the Academy for the Advancement of Science and Technology for high school and was interested in basically everything. I spent a lot of time doing cancer research, working on environmental and climate change awareness, learning AutoCAD and interning at an architecture firm, getting trained in Bharatanatyam (a form of classical Indian dance), and so on.
In 2010, I was trained by Former Vice President Al Gore, through his organization The Climate Reality Project, to give his presentation on climate change. Being a part of that organization allowed me to not only understand the issue of climate change and meet people all around the world focused on that issue, but also to gain the experience of giving presentations to audiences of different age groups and backgrounds internationally. The one field I found that allowed me to combine a lot of my interests was business. I had the opportunity to intern at UBS in their wealth management division my senior year and that eventually led me to attend New York University’s Stern School of Business where I studied finance, economics and environmental studies. I tried to take advantage of being in New York City by trying to gain as much experience as possible and to understand what the different areas of finance entailed.
In addition to various internships in the finance field, I was very involved with an investing club at NYU called the Investment Analysis Club. Throughout my time there, we were able to raise money to create the first student run real money portfolio at NYU for which I was the healthcare assistant portfolio manager. My interest in healthcare stems from that initial cancer research and science focus I had in high school. This position led me to interning at OrbiMed Advisors which is a healthcare focused fund manager. I was able to gain exposure to hedge fund, private equity, venture capital, and royalty debt investments. OrbiMed served to solidify my interest in investments and healthcare. It eventually led to Goldman Sachs where I spent one summer in industrials investment banking and another summer in healthcare investment banking. These internships made me understand what I want my career to look like but it also showed me that I can have the flexibility to continue to pursue other interests as well. I am going to be going to Goldman Sachs full time in their healthcare investment banking division and am still very involved with The Climate Reality Project where I am now a mentor and help other get trained to help save the world’s environment.
I AM HAPPIEST WHEN...
I get to see the world and the environment through the lens of a camera. I am filled with awe when I get to explore the culture and vibrancy of life around the world. I also am happiest when I feel the exhilaration of dancing, whether it’s on a stage in front of a thousand people or alone in my room.
