Chapter Head - Singapore
Career Standard Chartered Bank, HSBC
Education Singapore Management University
I grew up in Sunny Singapore where queuing and eating is not just a hobby but a national sport. Unlike most of my peers in Leaders, I was never the hardworking kid when it came to school. However, when it comes to sport and exceeding in it, my so-called not hardworking attitude takes a 180 degrees turn.
Sports or sailing is what defines a majority part of my life back in school and even till today. I used to enjoy school because of the time I had to play sports, be it sailing, rugby, soccer or even basketball (despite my lack thereof of height). My parents constantly nagged at me because my grades were falling behind and it seemed like I didn't really care (which is partly true). Despite their concern, they never stopped me from pursuing my dream of participating at the Olympics one day.
Having grown a tad older and hopefully a little taller, dreams and aspirations change and I'm now very much focused on my career and striving to be the best of the very best. I started my career as an investment banker with Standard Chartered Bank where I cover both financial sponsors and blue chip companies. Though the long hours may be a put off at times (I'm writing this at 3.50am after work), I take my experiences from being a competitive athlete into my workplace telling myself that hardwork and perseverance and a little bit of luck will allow me to excel in whatever I do. Over the past 9 months, I have had an exciting and a thrilling experience learning more about various industries, the product offering of a bank and also about myself.
Outside of my career, I do basically anything and everything that there is to do - Sports, baking, reading, chilling and even leading the Singapore Chapter for Leaders. Likewise, I'm an avid foodie and love eating. However, I'm a creature of comfort and I tend to always return to the same food places over and over and over again.
I AM HAPPIEST WHEN...
The people around me that I love are happy. Generic as it seems but its something that I would say is my soft spot.
